DECARBONISING HEAVY TRANSPORT WITH HYDROGEN
This is a campaign that I worked on as Creative Producer and Director For Edisen whose client Hyundai Motor Company were looking for a more natural documentary approach to messaging around their Hydrogen Fuel Cell business and showcase their vision of a new era in pollution-free goods movement.
The first film was for heavy goods fleet operators in the US market to be aware of Hyundai shipping a new fleet of hydrogen-powered trucks onto American roads and get messaging from some key players involved in the in the energy and transport sector to talk about the importance of the decarbonisation of their industry.
Rather than creating a vehicle 'review' video the challenge here was to showcase the XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck inside a personal story with a natural documentary feel, narrated by a real truck driver experiencing the future of trucking for the first time.
Becca, a 22-year-old Youtube truck driver is the heart the film. We got to know and love her as we filmed her first experience driving a hydrogen fuel cell truck onto Californian roads. Along the way, we nod to some of Hyundai's clever hydrogen-powered fuel cell technology which features authentically as part of the overall story.
The second film followed on from the success and reaction of the first film. This film was for European Hyundai transport fleet clients to see the reaction a hydrogen powered bus gets from climate concious commuters as well as showcasing the performance of the Elec City Fuel Cell Bus compared to its diesel counterparts dominating the roads of Europe.
The challenge here was using an ordinary bus driver, Peter who hadn’t been on camera before (unlike influencer Big Rig Becca) to keep the film engaging and provide the main narration.
Getting Peter to open up about his personal connection to nature and specifically Austrian Alps provided us with the beginning of the film as Peter recalled how since visiting as a child the glacier has drastically shrunk due to climate change and by driving a hydrogen powered bus around Vienna it means he can play his part in helping to decarbonise public transport.
The film was an exploration of the synergy between Hyundai Motor Company and sustainable energy, paving the way for a brighter future.
